Why is HD-DVD so crap?
15 GB is pathetic for a new storage techology. That’s only 4 times more than the DVD format, which was introduced 10 years earlier! Compare that to hard drives, which have gained 500-fold in 10 years! In two or three years HD-DVD will probably be obsolete again. Why did companies go ahead with this format? Why haven’t they developed a truly revolutionary format, and released a 500 GB format, capable of storing several HD movies and backing up a hard drive? Are there inherent limitations to optical storage?
PS. Blu-ray is hardly closer to being “revolutionary”.
I have a HD TV but as yet I havnt watched a HD movie as I dont subscribe to Sky movies and in the UK I cant get HD/DVD’s unless anyone knows any different.
