Is Subtle evil the worst kind?
My mother keeps putting down my son, but ever so subtly.
She doesn’t even know my son because the only time we ever go to visit her is on Christmas and 4th of July. Yet during these times, she treats him like a loser. She even started talking about him and then asked me if I ever saw the movie “A Brilliant Mind” suggesting that she thought he was crazy.
My son is really a great kid. He has lots of friends, has a great personality, the only problem is that he struggles with completing school assignments.
I feel that my mother is trying to turn other family members away from my son by belittling him, but without being so obviouse.
Should I keep her away from our lives? I keep trying to stick up for my son, but she just wont quit.
I would stay away from her. You cannot get her to stop and your son does not need that. You need to protect him from her. It is hard enough in life sometimes without your own family trying to cause you pain.
